On Sunday the 28th November 2010 , Cavy Corner (and loyal companions) battled their way through the first onset of snow to Hatfield Woodhouse Village Hall to hold its winter festival fun day.
This is one of the many fundraisers which the sanctuary organise during the year to help the little guinea-pigs they rescue.

The day started at eleven in the morning, but the volunteers began working several hours earlier to set up the beautiful raffle and tombola prizes and to make the piggies comfortable. Cavy Corner Guinea-Pig Sanctuary is possibly unique in what it does because it is completely volunteer run, and relies solely on such charity events to secure a happy life for their guinea-pigs.
During the day, a selection of guinea goodies  were available, as well as a large array of piggy merchandise from badges to mugs to home-made Christmas cards.
At midday, the guinea-pigs - and other small, furry animals brought by visitors to the event were entered for competitions such as ‘The Prettiest Pig’ and ‘The Fastest Eater’ (which is always rather thrilling) and ‘Guinea The Judges Would Most Like To Take Home’. The ‘Best In Show’ was awarded to two beautiful guinea-pigs, George and Libby, and  a star arrived when a gigantic grey bunny rabbit, in an appropriately rabbit-sized lead and harness, was lead into the hall.
Aside from the competitions, guinea-pigs could also get free mini health checks, and visitors were welcomed to cuddle a Cavy Corner pig to their heart’s content in between the games, activities, raffles and munching cream teas from the brilliantly supervised café.

Cavy Corner is delighted with the support shown by all the people who visited the fun day, known or not, and the money they were able to raise for the sanctuary. Funds will go solely towards the guinea-pigs’ food, shavings and housing, vets fees etc  The charity is known for its love for guinea-pigs and enthusiasm to help them and give them a good home, and we are hoping for many more successful Fun Days to fill our weekends with the delights of small, sweet and talkative animals.
